[smufl-discuss] Proposal: Change glyph names/descriptions of triangular clefs at U+E06F-U+E072

Since SMuFL reached version 1.0 we have had a policy that glyph names and
code points for existing glyphs should not change.

However, thanks to the information uncovered by Knut Nergaard in recent
days concerning the triangular clefs in the 'Clefs' range between U+E06F
and U+E072, it has become clear that these characters are both erroneously
named and described, and incorrect in appearance.

The clefs are described in Karkoschka's "Notation in new music" as being
used by the Polish composer Bogusław Schäffer. He uses a filled (black)
right-pointing triangle, with its apex positioned on the appropriate staff
line, e.g. on the second staff line from the bottom for a G clef (treble),
and on the fourth staff line from the bottom for an F clef (bass). When he
changes clef, he uses an unfilled (white) left-pointing triangle, with its
apex positioned on the appropriate staff line to indicate the old clef,
and a filled right-pointing triangle indicating the new clef.

At present, SMuFL encodes a large right-pointing triangle as a "C clef"
(U+E069) and a small right-pointing triangle as an "F clef" (U+E070). It
has a "C clef to F clef change" (U+E071) and "F clef to C clef change"
(U+E072), which show the large and small triangles in a similar
arrangement to how Schäffer uses them, though not correctly.

I propose, then, that we change the name and description of the characters
at U+E069–U+E071 as follows:

U+E069 – schaefferClef – right-pointing filled triangle
U+E070 - schaefferPreviousClef - left-pointing unfilled triangle
U+E071 - schaefferGClefToFClef - left-pointing unfilled triangle (on 2nd
staff line) below right-pointing filled triangle (on 4th staff line)
U+E072 - schaefferFClefToGClef - left-pointing unfilled triangle (on 4th
staff line) above right-pointing filled triangle (on 2nd staff line)

Please let me know if you have any objections to this change, which I very
much expect to be a rare exception to our rule concerning changing glyph
names.

Thanks,

Daniel
