I have been struggling to combine my own music symbols fonts (until now old
fashioned Windows Symbol fonts) with text glyphs, and have been having
exactly this problem. I too was coming to the 'unavoidable' conclusion.

That would be great - thanks.
(In the long term I'd like Mozart to be able to use SMuFL fonts, and any
info to help orient my thinking would be useful.)
