Oh and the other example is just so obvious that I couldn't see at at the
end of my nose. For some characters, eg COPSUVWXZ the capital is the same
as the lower case form but a little bit larger. Nevertheless they exist at
different code points in the font (and were originally in the printers'
higher and lower boxes of characters - the upper and the lower case).
In normal text 'P' is used at the start of some words but 'p' is used in the
middle - just like clefs on lines of music! So think of them as upper and
lower case clefs!
