I don't know what was the purpose that they were added, but, as to my
modest knowledge, there are two possibilities:
1. To meet specific needs of typographical appearance.
2. To render different coulés in conjunction with
Pralltriller/tremeblements (e.g. Rameau).
My suggestion is to give them the names like "mordent beginning with a
convex arc starting on the baseline" or "tremblement beginning with a
concave stroke starting high up" (just expressed in better English and
in a more concise way, if possible). This way of naming is precise
enough for the second usage and does not make an impression that using
these glyphs for other reasons (like aesthetic or as a reference to the
certain source) is inappropriate.
