I’ve used this sign in pieces to signify that there is no time signature and I’m sure I got it from someone else (not Charles Boone).  It’s the mathematical sign for an empty set; I bet though that the few of us who use it can use the empty set sign for it.  It would be good if notation software developers could specify a way of saying senza misura in their time signature options and let people specify a font symbol for it.
