There seems to only be downstem versions of he glyphs in the Tremolo category (the dots without slurs). As far as I know these shapes tend to go on the note side regardless of stem direction. To avoid having to add a duplicate set with registration for upstem notes, I could centre these glyphs on the baseline, but I’m not sure whether thats appropriate or not.

The groupings are essentially arbitrary, in as much as they are what made sense to me as I was putting the standard together. We could slice and dice the current groupings as shown in the specification any which way, but at this stage, since the glyph names and code points for existing characters are locked down, it's sort of a moot point.
