In that case, am I to understand that whenever glyphs are to be positioned on the stem side, there is one single registration
regardless of the stem direction, but glyphs for note side positioning have two sets, each with different registration,
depending on stem direction?

In my (limited) experience, these dots to show tremolo divisions go on the
stem side rather than on the notehead side, hence their alignment with the
font baseline: an application can position them by placing a glyph a
specific distance away from the stem tip, centred on the stem.
