Those characters are a handful of Medieval and Renaissance symbols that
are no longer directly represented in SMuFL. For example, the range
between u1D1D6 and u1D1DD are multi-note plainchant glyphs, which are not
encoded directly in SMuFL: instead, the various component parts required
to create them are found in the 'Medieval and Renaissance plainchant
multi-note forms' range. Similarly for the glyphs between u1D1B6 and
u1D1C0: this range of mensural notes is covered more comprehensively by
the 'Medieval and Renaissance noteheads and stems' and 'Medieval and
Renaissance individual notes' ranges.

Originally it was intended that SMuFL would be a pure superset of the
Unicode Musical Symbols range, but unfortunately in the end it was
necessary to diverge from the set of glyphs encoded in the Unicode range
in order to more accurately and comprehensively encode the required
symbols.
