[smufl-discuss] Requests for additional glyphs

Good, Michael
Hi Daniel,

The glyph coverage in SMuFL 0.7 has gotten really good! There are still a
few glyphs that we would like to see added based on what we have seen our
customers do with Finale over the years. I've included some references for
clarification.

 - Digits for time signatures that cross multiple staves. These tend to
have a very different typographic style than single-staff time signature
digits. Perhaps these could be stylistic alternates for the current time
signature digits, similar to the accidentals intended for small staves?

 - Double-high parentheses and brackets for stacked chord symbols. The
style for these is often different than scaling a parenthesis or bracket
from a different point size. Perhaps these could be added in the chord
symbol range in a similar way that the parentheses and brackets are
included in the function theory symbols range?

 - Divisi dots notations for measured tremolos. These are 2, 3, 4, and 6
dots without a slur. These are not stylistic alternates for double/triple
tongue, but rather a separate musical meaning (Gerou and Lusk p. 331).

 - A four dot symbol analogous to the double and triple tongue symbols,
used for clavichord Bebung and guttural / repeat tremolos (Stone p. 302).

 - Combining glyphs for simple rectangular noteheads of varying size in
the note clusters range. We have examples in slots 58, 59, and 201 of our
Engraver Font Set font.

 - More variants of wiggleCircularConstant, including a flipped version
and larger versions of the normal and flipped versions, so 4 glyphs vs. 1
(Stone p. 221).

 - The multi-segment lines are great, but we need a few more segments and
scribbles to provide standard text ways to do what our customers want. We
have these in our Finale Percussion font at slots 162 through 166. They
are frequently used in percussion parts for instance, Mark just saw them
in Hal Leonard's new releases at Midwest (also Stone p. 26, Gould p. 606).

Thanks for your consideration of these requests. I promise we will balance
these with suggestions for glyphs to remove in my next email!

Best regards,
Michael
